Américo Mendoza-Mori (Ica, Perú 1987) is an interdisciplinary scholar trained in literary, linguistic and cultural studies. His research focuses on Latin American, U.S. Latinx, and Indigenous communities. He is an incoming Assistant Professor at St. Olaf College, in Minnesota. He has held appointments at Harvard University’s Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights, and the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, where he designed their Quechua and Andean Culture Program. He received his BA from Perú’s National University of San Marcos, and got his Ph.D. in Literary, Cultural and Linguistic studies at the University of Miami, Florida.

He has co-edited the book Panel A-L: reflexiones sobre litertura y discursos de América Latina (2010) and published articles in different academic and media platforms in Peru, México and the United States. Mendoza-Mori has been recognized with a number of awards and honors, for both research, teaching and community service. These accolades include Harvard University’s recognition for Teaching Excellence, the University of Pennsylvania’s Teaching Innovation Grant, Sachs Grants for Art Innovation, and hosting the Quechua Fulbright FLTA program (2019, 2020, 2021). He has also been recognized by the City of Boston and the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and he is an honorary member of the Kuyayky Foundation. His work on Andean Culture, Quechua language, and cultural policies has appeared in a variety of academic publications, has been presented at major institutions such as the United Nations, a TEDx talk, and the international media (The New York Times, BBC, NPR, Remezcla, El Pais, The Washington Post, El Comercio).

Professor Mendoza-Mori is involved with different projects to raise awareness on the value of Andean Culture and Indigenous languages. For instance, he serves on the organization committee of the international conference ‘Thinking Andean Studies’, is a co-founder of the Quechua Alliance annual gatherings, has served as an Executive Committee member of the MLA’s Association of Language Departments 2021-2024 (ALD), and he is part of the advisory boards of the organizations Kuska Abya Yala and Foundation for Bolivian Artists. Mendoza-Mori was also a cultural consultant for the Paramount Pictures’ movie “Dora and the Lost City of Gold”. He has collaborated actively with academic and community-based organizations in Peru, Bolivia and the United States.

Dr. Mendoza-Mori has been invited to give talks at Brown University, Georgetown University, Harvard, Penn, Cornell University, Columbia University, Pennsylvania State University, Rowan University, U. Maine, National University of San Marcos in Lima (Peru), National Intercultural University of the Amazon – Pucallpa (Peru), Bryn Mawr College, Colgate University, Hobat & William Smith, Howard Community College, Ursinus College, Guilford College, San Andrés University in La Paz (Bolivia), among other institutions.

Américo Mendoza Mori (Ica, Perú 1987) es un investigador interdisciplinario especializado en estudios literarios, lingüísticos y cultuales. En el otoño 2025 estará comenzando la posición de profesor en St. Olaf College, Minnesota. Ha sido docente en el programa de Etnicidad de la Universidad de Harvard, y la Universidad de Pensilvania, en Filadelfia, en donde fue coordinador de su programa de Quechua y Cultura Andina. Recibió su BA de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, en Lima, y luego obtuvo su doctorado en Estudios Literarios, Culturales y Lingüísticos por la Universidad de Miami, Florida.

Ha coeditado un libro y además ha publicado artículos tanto en plataformas académicas y mediáticas en Perú, México y Estados Unidos . Mendoza Mori ha recibido diferentes condecoraciones por su investigación, enseñanza y servicio a la comunidad. Entre ellas se cuentan el Reconocimiento de Excelencia de Enseñanza por la Universidad Harvard, Reconocimiento por la Ciudad de Boston, Teaching Innovation Grant de la Universidad de Pensilvania, y los Fondos para innovación en las artes de la Fundación Sachs. Sus investigaciones sobre Cultura Andina, lengua Quechua y políticas culturales han sido presentadas en la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), charlas TEDx , y medios internacionales (The New York Times, NPR, Remezcla, The Washington Post, El País, El Comercio). En 2018 fue nombrado miembro honorario de la fundación Kuyayky.

El profesor Mendoza Mori está involucrado en diferentes proyectos académicos y comunitarios para el reconocimiento de la cultura andinas y las lenguas indígenas. Es parte del comité organizador de la conferencia internacional ‘Thinking Andean Studies’ (‘Pensando los Estudios Andinos’), co-fundador de los encuentros anuales de la Alianza Quechua y miembros de comités consultivos de Kuskalla Abya Yala y Foundation for Bolivian Artists. Asimismo también ha sido consultor cultural para la película de Paramount Pictures “Dora y la Ciudad Perdida” (2019). Es también co-fundador y ex-director de la Red Literaria Peruana.

En los últimos años, el Dr. Mendoza Mori ha sido invitado a dar charlas en la Universidad de Brown, Georgetown, Cornell, UPenn, Columbia, Harvard, Penn State, Universidad Rowan, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos en Lima (Perú), Bryn Mawr College, Ursinus College, la Universidad Mayor de San Andrés en La Paz (Bolivia), Universidad Nacional Intercultural de la Amazonía – Pucallpa (Perú), entre otras.
